Exposure to IMP and/or H2O2 enhances hslJ expression via the global regulator OxyR, which recognizes a specific consensus sequence on the hslJ promoter. This periplasmic protein acts as a first line of defense against oxidative stress induced by antibiotics, macrophages and disinfectants. In addition, HslJ contributes to CSH and motility.
